U-turns key part of new safety upgrades
Design for the last two packages of safety upgrades along King and Lower King Streets in Caboolture is underway.
State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan said the $7.5 million works packages were being delivered through the State Government’s Targeted Road Safety Program.
“King St and Lower King St are important roads for Caboolture locals, connecting them to the Bruce and D’Aguilar Highways, so it’s great to see we’re another step closer to delivering these important safety upgrades,” Mr Ryan said.
“A
key part of the upgrades will be installing a series of U-turn lanes with
traffic lights, making it much easier and safer for road users to access the
other side of what is a very busy road.
“The upgrades, funded through the camera detected offence program, is part of our more than $3 billion transport and roads plan for the Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas over the next four years, supporting 2700 jobs in the region.”
Turns removed
Mr Ryan said right turns would be removed between Dux and Charles St and at Wararba Cres, while U-turns would be provided at Watt St and west of Lynfield Dve, and double lines would be installed on Lower King St.
Transport and Main Roads has also decided the proposed connection between Short and Edward streets will not go ahead, as the safety benefits of removing right turns on Lower King St would be adequate.
Following completion of the designs, Transport and Main Roads will provide construction timeframes starting on the two remaining packages (Lower King St between Dux and Charles streets, and King St intersection with Wararba Cres and Lynfield Dve).
