Volunteers revamp special school gardens

Caboolture Special School has been given a revamp by volunteers from Lendlease, the global development company.

Last week around 25 Lendlease employees upgraded gardens and lay a sensory floor for children at the Torrens Rd school.

Volunteers helped revitalise the school’s edible and sensory gardens by mulching, planting new vegetables and fruits for the community.

They also put down some vinyl in one of the school hallways for a sensory pathway.

Caboolture Special School is one of more than 47 national in-person and virtual volunteering projects selected for Lendlease Foundation’s annual Community Day, now its 26th year.

Last year more than 1000 Lendlease employees around the world joined community volunteers supporting over 60 Community Day projects.

Community Day enables Lendlease employees to work with colleagues and community partners to make a difference in the communities where they live and work.

Projects are sourced from existing relationships with national organisations including Oz Harvest, Australian Red Cross, Landcare, Career Seekers, other charities and not-for-profits.

“Community Day offers our people the chance to apply their skills to make a positive contribution to our local communities,” Cate Harris, Lendlease Group Head of Sustainability and Lendlease Foundation said.

“This is the same approach we seek to emulate with our global target to create $250 million in social value by 2025.

“Our target reflects our commitment to leave a positive legacy by helping to support community health and wellbeing, provide economic opportunities, improve the local environment and by creating resilient and thriving communities.”
