Who’s Who in 2022, Community Groups: PCYC
All three levels of government have shown their commitment to providing new and exciting facilities for Moreton Bay’s youth after pledging millions to build a new PCYC club at Caboolture, as well as renovating the PCYC at Redcliffe.
It was announced in January 2022 that a new PCYC would be built at Caboolture during the next two years on a vacant block of land at King St, beside the new Caboolture Police Station.
The announcement came after the Federal Government said it would provide $5 million for the project, matching the State Government’s contribution.
This was on top of the $2.5 million provided by Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Some of the programs that will be a big focus of the new Caboolture PCYC include gymnastics and boxing, as well as outside school hours care, community spaces, martial arts and possibly a kindergarten.
If all goes to schedule, the project should be completed by December 2023.
In March 2022, The Redcliffe PCYC unveiled the first stage of its multi-million-dollar refurbishment which included better accessibility for patrons and the capacity for more services.
The $1.25 million stage one upgrade was included in Moreton Bay Regional Council’s 2021-2022 budget, thanks to funding provided by the Federal Government.
About PCYC
Police-Citizens Youth Clubs – better known as PCYC – provides a wide range of youth and community programs, as well as services and facilities for the community.
As a way of helping young people prepare for the challenges of adolescence and adulthood, some of the programs the PCYC offers that encourage personal development include Deep Blue Line - which is a police officer led mentoring program that aims to help boost self-esteem and expose participants to healthy role models - as well as the Braking the Cycle program – a volunteer driver mentor program that helps young drivers who do not have access to a responsible supervisor or vehicle to complete their logbook hours while on a learners permit.
There are also a variety of fun activities and programs for all ages and levels. These include gymnastics, boxing, dance, martial arts, 24-hour gyms and Kinder-Gym, all of which have been designed as a fun way for children to make new friends, learn new skills and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
In Queensland, there are 56 clubs which millions of people attend each week.
Here in the Moreton Bay Region, there are five PCYC locations – Redcliffe, Deception Bay, Pine Rivers, Caboolture and Hills District (Everton Hills).
