Working some magic at Fairy Way

A team from Ray White Deception Bay is today working to restore some magic along Deception Bay’s foreshore.

As part of their annual support of Clean Up Australia Day, the real estate agency is giving Fairy Way “a little bit of TLC”.

Fairy Way started in 2020 when members of Moreton Bay Community Rocks decorated and placed rocks in the area on Esplanade South.

Visitors then brought decorated rocks and swapped them. Numbers quickly grew when a Facebook group and website were launched.

However Rebecca Johnston, from the Events and Marketing team at Ray White Deception Bay, said Fairy Way may have lost a little of its “charm and magic”.

“We had a staff training with a local marine biologist at the Environmental Hub as one of our business goals is we want to learn more about Deception Bay,” she said.

“This training inspired one of our new members Karen Staunton to spend a Sunday walking along the foreshore, where she came across Fairy Way.

“Karen thought the area was really beautiful and a great community initiative but looked like it needed a little bit of TLC."

She reached out through the Facebook Deception Bay Community Group and found the woman who voluntarily looked after the area had been unwell and not able to do as much.

As Ray White Deception Bay supports Clean Up Australia Day every year, Karen asked if the real estate agency's efforts this year could be dedicated to sprucing up Fairy Way.

“The business was onboard and has allocated funds to buy decorations,” Rebecca said, “and the team has been painting rocks in their lunch hours to use to pretty up the area.”

Sunday March 2 is the official Clean Up Australia Day, which is celebrating its 35th year “of improving and conserving our environment, one piece of litter at a time!”
