Works starts on Waraba's essential services

Unitywater will start work next month on a wastewater network for more than half the 70,000 new residents who will move to Waraba.

Stage one, in the former Caboolture West area, will see water and wastewater infrastructure by Unitywater and six development companies by late 2025.

Executive Manager Mike Basterfield said it is part of Unitywater's $1.8 billion investment over the next five years in water and wastewater infrastructure.

“Positioned under the ground, water and wastewater networks aren’t often front of mind but they are essential to protecting public health, enabling economic growth and ensuring environmental sustainability,” said Mr Basterfield.

“By working together with land developers and government to connect Waraba to our existing networks, we can sequence construction of these underpinning essentials for maximum efficiency, allowing the more visible aspects of a new land development to then begin taking shape.

“We’re pleased to have been able to engage a local delivery partner, creating more than 70 new jobs during construction.”

This first stage will see delivery a new wastewater pumping station with a flow capacity of approximately 195L/s at a pressure of 3500 kPa, four kilometres of wastewater rising main and seven odour control units.

Unitywater’s construction delivery partners Killard Infrastructure and Tallai Project Group, bring a combined 45 years’ experience in civil contracting.

“Many of our team will be local and it’s always special to know we’re helping deliver infrastructure in our area, which our children or future neighbours will benefit from," Killard Managing Director Jerry Daly said.

NDP1, as the first approved stage of development in Waraba, will deliver 2500 homes and last month work began on the first housing development, Lilywood Landings by Lennium Group.

The remaining lots will primarily be delivered by Orchard Property Group, Baycrown, Avid Property Group and Stockland.
