World champion's inspiring visit

Kelsey-Lee Barber, the World and Commonwealth javelin champion, made a special visit to Redcliffe Little Athletics on Friday.

Barber, only the second Australian, after Cathy Freeman, to retain a track and field world title, was on the peninsula to inspire the next generation of stars.

The 31-year-old was among a team of top athletes visiting 45 clubs to share training tips and meet the youngsters as part of the Coles Community Round.

Barber landed the world crown in Eugene with a third-round through of 66.91m adding to the world title she claimed in Doha in 2019.

Just weeks later, she saved her best for last at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, launching a 64.43m throw to snatch gold in the final round.

It also gave Barber a record of three gold and one bronze (Tokyo Olympics) from her last four major championships.

The visit to Redcliffe and Bracken Ridge Little Athletics coincided with Coles’ commitment to Little Athletics Australia for a further three seasons.
