Zoe dives in for college first
Zoe Wright, pictured above, has given The Lakes College’s (TLC) growing aquatic program another major boost.
The 13-year-old was the first TLC student to swim at the Australian Age Championships, which were held last month.
Wright, who is in Year 8 at the North Lakes school, qualified for the championships in all four strokes and competed in five events on the Gold Coast.
She just missed four finals by less than one second and finished higher than her seeded ranking in each of them.
In the 13 Years Girls events, Wright clocked 30.77 seconds for 50m butterfly, 33.22 seconds in 50m backstroke, 37 seconds for 50m breaststroke, 28.93 seconds in 50m freestyle and 1 minute 23.6 seconds for 100m breaststroke.
Those are added to medals, records and personal bests at the Brisbane Sprint Championships, Queensland Sprint Championships, Brisbane Senior Metropolitan Championships, Queensland School Championships, Jess Schipper National Prep Meet and TLC Club Championships.
This season Wright is looking to add the 200m butterfly and 400m IM to her variety of events from 50m to 400m.
TLC completed stage one of its Aquatic Precinct Build in September last year as it aims to develop students for national level competition.
