Bongaree Beach is a favourite Bribie Island destination for both locals and visitors, with its cool breezes, gentle waters and stunning views over the bay. Situated south of the Bribie Island Bridge, Bongaree Beach has parklands running parallel to the water along Welsby Parade and beautiful white sand. Bongaree is a popular beach with young families thanks to the gentle waters and lots of space to play.
The calm waters at Bongaree Beach are ideal for families with toddlers to enjoy a day safely in the shallow waters. Give the kids a bucket and a spade and they will happily play at the waters edge for hours.
For the more confident swimmers, head around to the jetty at Bongaree, this is a favourite spot among the locals to bomb-dive into the water and swim around. If you have a kayak or stand-up paddleboard, pack it into the car on a calm day and head out on the water for a paddle. Or if you don't have your own gear, there are companies in Bongaree that you can hire the equipment to head out onto the water.
A day at the beach isn't complete without a picnic or BBQ lunch. The Bongaree waterfront features a number of picnic shelters, tables and BBQs for visitors to enjoy lunch by the sea. The beach is a great place to host a kids birthday party or catch-up with friends, but secure your spot early as the beach is very popular and it's first-in best dressed when it comes to reserving tables. If you haven't prepared lunch, you can rest easy with a number of local cafes, takeaway shops, grocery store and an ice cream parlor within walking distance from the beach.
At Bongaree Beach you will discover a network of roads, suitable for cyclists or those who just want to take a scenic stroll. Beginning from S Esplanade, the paths stretch across the bridge all the way to Sylvan Beach.
