Polling day is on October 26.

Meet the Kurwongbah candidates

We invited candidates to provide a profile which included their top three priorities. Here are their responses, in ballot paper order.

Name: William Ross Pitt

Party: Family First Party

Suburb: Burpengary

Top 3 issues to address:

1. Housing and energy affordability: This has a huge impact on people and families every day. The rapid push for ’Green’ energy and ’Net Zero’ has resulted in price rises in electricity, while giving no guarantee of base load supply when there is little sun or wind.

2. Freedom for families: Many rights have been stripped from parents, hindering their ability to raise children with values consistent with their beliefs. This must change so parents are made aware if their children are considering choices that will impact negatively on their life as an adult.

3. Protection for our children: Our children are under attack from many directions. Parents need support to keep them safe from radical and harmful gender fluid ideology, particularly in light of the CASS review and banning of puberty blockers in other countries.

Name: Tanya McKewen

Party: Liberal National Party (LNP)

Suburb: Kurwongbah electorate

Top 3 issues to address:

As I have spoken to locals, they have raised concerns about out-of-control cost of living increases, not feeling safe in their own homes or down at the local shops and their struggle to get and keep a roof over their heads.

Ask yourself this question- is life getting better or worse after a decade of this Palaszczuk/Miles Labor Government?

The LNP’s Right Plan For Kurwongbah’s future will restore: safety where you live; health services when you need them; respect for your money; a place to call home; a government that works for you.

2024 Queensland State Election candidates Kurwongbah

Name: Jordan Martin

Party: Queensland Greens

Suburb: Narangba

Top 3 issues to address:

1. Housing crisis: My top priority is getting the housing crisis under control. As much as I would like my beloved neighbourhood to remain the same, my deep concern for some fellow Aussies is greater. Too many people are under housing stress, couch surfing or living out of their car.

2. Cost of Living: We need to get the cost of living under control — that is what I am hearing over and over when I talk to people in our community. That’s why the Greens will create a Queensland State Bank with fair rates and no fees to help make mortgages cheaper, freeze rents for two years and then cap annual rent increases thereafter, to help stop people slipping into homelessness.

3. Donations: The Greens don’t take corporation donations and we’ll ban them for everyone so no-one can ‘buy’ politicians.
