A sea of mullet magic at Burpengary Tavern

Burpengary Tavern was a sea of mullets on Saturday for a massive celebration of the popular hairstyle.

Marketing manager Jade Darney says the festival of luscious locks was so popular the venue plans to make it an annual event.

Mullet Day was not just about the business at the front, party at the back style - there was family entertainment, face painting, balloon art, children’s rides and a petting zoo.

“A big thank you to the pop-up bars Blackflag Brewing, Diablo and Aloha and the band the Fat Pigs,” Jade says.

“And of course a big thank you to all the kids’ activities - Amazing Animals to You, Mini Fairs and Fantasy Metamorfaces.

Generous visitors raised $1500 for not-for-profit community-based organisation the Jack Reed Foundation, which helps people restore their dignity and find pathways to make transformational changes in their lives through its 99 New Beginnings Project.

They were on site for haircuts and colouring, and raffles, with prizes donated by Carlton and United Breweries and Bundaberg Rum.

Jade says the next generation of mullet fans is in good hands, with 15 entrants in the junior category and 25 in the senior.

“People are talking about how they enjoyed the day so we will be having more annually,” she says.

“In the juniors they received $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third and we gave out two $20 runners-up because there were so many little legends with great mullets.”

Victors in the main competition received $500 for first, $300 for second and $200 for third.
