"Amazing" mural brushes up barrier
An 'eye-sore' is now being described as “a great addition” to Bribie Island Rd, thanks to the artistic talents of Drapl.
Travis Vinson, known as Drapl, was asked to transform 10 sound-barrier shipping containers with a giant mural by the entrance to Sandstone Point Hotel.
Residents and motorists have welcomed and praised the colourful mural social media with Katrina Honeywell saying it was “amazing”.
“I love them,” Karen Purssell said on Facebook, “what a great addition, so much better to see the mural then the plain shipping containers. Thank you.”
Kristen Trask said: “How good and even got a black Marlin in there.”
Jacqui Everson floated the idea: “Maybe paint the other side also. Could be like a crowd painting.”
The Comiskey Group, which built and runs Sandstone Point Hotel, contacted Drapl after some residents said the containers were an eye-sore.
Drapl’s design depicts the area's landscape - Bribie’s white sand beaches, Bongaree Jetty and views of the Glass House Mountains across Pumicestone Passage.
It also shows the lifestyle of its residents, with a boat in the passage and the pelicans and seagulls which call the area home.
“We were captivated by Drapl’s exceptional talent and vision,” director David Comiskey said.
“His work deeply resonates with communities and we wanted to bring that compelling spirit to Sandstone Point.
“The mural serves as a spectacular welcome to all visitors, showcasing the beauty and vibrancy of Bribie Island.”
Drapl has done other artwork at Comiskey venues, including Samford Hotel and Oyster Shed Beach Club as well as silos and festival backdrops across Australia.
The shipping containers are positioned by sound engineers and removed when the venue has a period without concerts.
