Woodford Show will host an Australian woodchop championship later this month in major coup for the Moreton Bay event.
The Australian Championship 375mm Standing Block woodchop will be contested at Woodford on Saturday June 20.
It will be one of the few occasions a national title has been held outside a capital city.
The milestone comes as Woodford Show (June 19-20) celebrates 115 years by boosting its reputation as the Woodchop Capital of Queensland.
"This is an incredibly proud moment for Woodford and for everyone who has kept our woodchopping tradition alive over generations," Woodford Show Society President Rob Chochran said.
"National championships are almost always held at Royal Shows in capital cities, so to bring this title to our regional community is a testament to Woodford's deep connection to the sport and its standing in the Australian axemen's community."
The 375mm Standing Block is a test of strength, precision and speed, regularly featured at Australian and World Championship levels.
Competitors race against the clock to chop through a vertically mounted hardwood log measuring 375mm in diameter.
Australia's top axemen will go head-to-head alongside international competitors with 27-time world champion and Woodford resident Bruce Winkle the announcer and commentator.
Woodford Show will also have an appearance from social media star Jimmy Judge on the Saturday (June 20) and his extreme food challenge.
The ‘challenge’ is being kept under wraps but Jimmy is known for eating 1kg of donuts in under four minutes, 3kg of nachos in 18 minutes and 2.2kg of pizza in seven minutes!
Around 40 monster trucks and stunt bike displays will also feature along with cattle and horse displays celebrating the region’s agricultural heritage, dog jumping and agility competitions.
This year’s Woodford Show will also have bakery and cookery competition, kid zones with performers, discos, balloon artists, giant bubbles, sideshow alley, rides and showbag stalls.
Also food trucks offering pizza, burgers, barbecue stalls and Saturday will finish firework display.
"This is a true community celebration, and we want everyone to be part of it,” president Rob said.
