Birds & Bees Cafe Bar

At Birds & Bees Cafe Bar, you can taste the flavours of Columbia.

Owner Valentina Castrillon, moved from Columbia to Australia ten years ago and imported coffee from the plantation of her family before opening a café at Mitchelton, followed closely by Birds & Bees.

The dinner menu includes empanadas, parcels filled with beef and potato.

“They are Columbian street food. They’re delicious,” she says.

The Columbian barbecue for two is one of the ever popular choices. But Valentina says they are not a South American restaurant and there are plenty of other options. The venue is open 6.30am-3pm, Mon-Thur; 6.30am-10pm, Fri-Sat; 7am-3pm, Sun.

Little Gossip

After Fadi Tahan traded his tool belt in for an apron he discovered his passion for food.

The former carpenter and his mum Sadie built a "humble cafe" for many residents in the area at Everton Hills, which has become "the local." Some are so comfortable they pop in wearing PJs for their morning coffee.

Sadie laughs and claims she and Fadi are just like the characters from Mother and Son, the Australian sitcom, but it works. Benedict rolls of the cafe's eggs are popular, as are bowls of Acai. They also offer shakes, salads, smoothies, wraps and burgers for breakfasts. Little Gossip is open Mon-Fri 5.30am-5pm; Sat-Sun 5.30am-2pm.
