Rock legends Hoodoo Gurus will headline an event to celebrate Clontarf-based Team Musicare’s expansion into the Sunshine Coast region.
From humble beginnings in 2020, Team Musicare has grown from a single participant attending a three-hour weekly session to an organisation with more than 30 staff and 170 weekly participants on the Redcliffe Peninsula.
Founder Dan Nebe says the project is privately funded, without grants or government funding.
“It doesn’t get more grassroots than this,” Dan says.
“We started with nothing but a passion for music and a vision for inclusivity. Today, we’re proving that with hard work, community support, and innovation, you can create something extraordinary.”
Dan says the launch of Team Musicare Sunshine Coast isn’t just a celebration—it’s the start of a “revolutionary chapter in employment training, Youth Justice programs, and inclusive opportunities for NDIS participants”.
“This groundbreaking initiative will pave the way for a future where creativity and inclusivity are at the forefront.
“This program is destined to become the benchmark for similar initiatives across the country. We’re not just setting the stage for incredible music experiences—we’re shaping a blueprint for inclusive employment, personal growth, and community engagement.”
The grand opening event will be held at the new Team Musicare studio at The Station, Birtinya, on January 31 with free festivities from 10am-2.45pm. It will culminate in an exclusive ticketed Twilight Concert featuring the Hoodoo Gurus and alternative rock legends Magic Dirt.
At 2.45pm, Hoodoo Gurus will swap guitars for scissors as they lead the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, joined by Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli, political leaders, celebrities and star guests. These include Tom Busby (Busby Marou), Diana Anaid (I Go Off, Last Thing), Bob Spencer (Skyhooks, Angels, Rose Tattoo), Jonny Sonic (Potbelleez) and Natalie Gauci (Australian Idol winner).
“This isn’t just an opening; it’s a movement,” Dan says.
“With Hoodoo Gurus at the forefront, backed by an army of industry legends, we’re creating a moment that embodies everything Musicare stands for: inclusion, creativity, and the transformative power of music.”
Team Musicare Sunshine Coast’s hub will offer creative spaces which provide everything from creative industry training, one-on-one community participation, group sessions, youth justice programs and more.
“This expansion solidifies Team Musicare’s partnership with The Station and the commitment to empowering individuals through music and creativity while setting the benchmark for similar programs across Australia,” Dan says.
