A Burpengary baby is among the 50 born at Mater Mothers’ hospitals across Queensland on August 30.

Mater Mothers’ hospitals general manager Kerri Gane says August 30 was very close to a record-breaking day.

“A large number of babies were born at Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital, Mater Mothers’ Hospital and Mater Private Hospital Redland, including one set of twins,” Kerri says.

Bountiful babies

Burpengary’s Colter Tryhorn was one of 44 bubs born at Mater Mothers in Brisbane, with six others welcomed at Mater Mothers across regional Queensland.

The record number of Mater babies born across the state was 52 on October 18 last year.

Some parents say the rare super blue moon could be the reason for their baby’s arrival and the number of births on the day.

“We had six babies arrive early and spend a few days in the Mater Mothers’ Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,” Kerri says.

“I’m not sure what it was about 30 August, maybe it had something to do with the rare super blue moon that graced our skies that evening,” Kerri says.

The blue moon brought a batch of baby girls in the regions, with three arriving at Mater Mothers’ Private Townsville Hospital, two at Mater Mothers Private Mackay and one girl born at Mater Mothers Private Rockhampton.

The most babies born in one day across Mater hospitals in Southeast Queensland was 45, on October 18, 2021.
