School is out for summer, and if you are wondering how you are going to entertain the kids for the next few weeks, don’t stress because we have got you sorted.

Here is our ultimate list of boredom-busting events and workshops so you don’t have to hear the words “what are we going to do today” every day.

Sing along to your favourite Christmas Carols

Get into the Christmas spirit this festive season by singing all your favourite Christmas carols like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls, Silent Night at more at one of these great community events:

Summer Reading Club

If your kids love to read, register them to take part in the Summer Reading Club.

The Summer Reading Club is being held at all libraries across the Moreton Bay Region from now until January 31.

Not only will your child be expanding their knowledge or letting their imaginations soar, but they will also go in the running to win some cool prizes – every three hours of reading at the library or online is eligible for the weekly prize draws.

Summer Reading Club is open to Moreton Bay Region Library members aged 17 and under or grade 12 and under.

Sand….sational! New exhibition opens at the Bribie Island Seaside Museum

Kids and adults will love the new interactive space called Sand…sational, which is now on display at the Bribie Island Seaside Museum. Visitors can explore and discover the wonders of sand up close, play with some kinetic sand, and test their knowledge with a fun quiz. This exhibition is running from now until February 26. It is free to attend.

Council’s school holiday program is jam-packed with lots of free and low-cost activities and workshops for children of all ages to enjoy over the school holidays.

Make your own Christmas decorations

This Christmas craft session will help your children create their own decorations to take home just in time for Christmas Day.

Scavenger Hunt

Let your children become explorers as they make their way around the library and find all the hidden objects.

If they collect all the hidden objects, they will win a prize.

Green screen adventures

If your kids have ever dreamt of being a superhero, they can film themselves in front of a green screen and show off their special powers.

The team from the Australian Acting Academy will show them how!

Your kids will have a ball creating their own wooden marble maze with Andy from Little Green Thumbs.

Get up close and personal with some slithery and scaly reptiles at Reptiles Unleashed.

Make your own board game

Over three afternoons, your child can design, create and make their own boardgame to play with their friends and family.

The library’s 3D printers will print the pieces for you.

Stomp with Aunty Sharron

Learn more about native animals and Indigenous songs, dances, culture and storytelling with Aunty Sharron Mirii Bell at her fun-filled live show, where kids can stomp around and make lots of noise.

Coil weaving

Learn how to make your own coil earrings or coil basket with Kristine Ellis.

Messy Play

If your kids love to be creative, and get messy in the process, take them down to the library where they can play with kinetic sand, play dough, paint a picture and more as part of the Messy Play program.

Blue-Bots fairytale adventures

The adorable little Blue-Bot robots are looking to go on an adventure and need some friends to help them make their way through a fairytale village.

Swing into fun at Redcliffe PCYC

The Redcliffe PCYC will be hosting two jam-packed days of fun on January 12 and 17 as part of their school holiday program. There will be gymnastics, trampolining, a scavenger hunt, bike education track and other team building activities. For more information, like the Redcliffe PCYC on Facebook.

Try a range of activities at Deception Bay PCYC

The team at the Deception Bay PCYC is inviting the community down to come and try a few of their activities over the school holidays. Upcoming trial days include Parkour on December 13 and gymnastics on December 14. More information can be found on their Facebook page.

Get crafty at Encircle

Encircle Community Services will be hosting a number of craft workshops throughout the holidays where kids can make their own mason jars, baubles and cards. Head along to one of the following workshops:

  • Encircle Pine Rivers – Monday, December 12 from 9.30-11.30am at 865 Gympie Road Lawnton.
  • Encircle Redcliffe Neighbourhood Centre – Thursday, December 15 from 9.30-11.30am at 1 Lamington Drive Redcliffe.
  • Encircle Kallangur – Friday, December 16 from 9.30-11.30am at 51 Marsden Road Kallangur.
