Bracing for battle with Hunters
Big crowds are expected at Moreton Daily Stadium when the Dolphins take on PNG Hunters on May 29 in what coach Adam Mogg says will be a physical game of footy.
It will come after a week off for the Intrust Super Cup side and on the back of two hard-fought wins.
The team won 14-12 on May 16 against the Brisbane Tigers, and 26-24 against the Townsville Blackhawks on May 9.
Mogg said the weekend’s win against the Tigers was a ‘real show of character’ and he was proud of the way the team dug deep for each other.
“We don’t spend a lot of time together as a team. We played better against Townsville, but they worked hard for each other,” he said.
“We’ve got a pretty good footy team, that’s evident, but we have a long way to go. I can see a lot of improvement in our team.”
The focus, ahead of the clash with the Hunters, will be on ‘getting better’.
“It’s a cliché, but it’s that time of year and that’s what we need to do. We were defensively strong against Townsville, but a little bit down against Easts,”
“We’re coming together as a footy team, have a bit of consistency. Some players knew straight away they were down a bit on Sunday.”
Mogg said he spoke to a former Dolphin, who is now with the Tigers, after the game and he said it was their toughest this season.
The Dolphins will be bracing for another battle on May 29, with the Hunters expected to bring their best game to Moreton Daily Stadium for round 8. Kick-off is at 6pm.
Zonta domestic violence campaign round
The home game will also raise awareness as Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month draws to a close.
It is the sixth year the Dolphins have partnered with The Zonta Club of Redcliffe for the campaign.
Zonta President Marie Stewart said it showed supporters the club had no tolerance for coercive control or gender-based violence and abuse.
Zonta members will form a guard of honour for the players running on to the field.
Orange is the colour used to represent domestic violence, so Zonta members will wear orange shirts and the players will wear orange socks.
There will also be a raffle to raise money for DV programs, supported by Zonta Redcliffe.
“This match day has been very successful for the last six years and Zonta Redcliffe are hoping to expand this next year in May for all local winter football codes or sports, such as Australian Rules, Rugby Union, Field Hockey and would appreciate these clubs showing an interest to be involved as well,” Ms Stewart said.
