Cancer care centre opens in City of Moreton Bay

A new era in cancer care begins in the City of Moreton Bay today with the official opening of Cancer Care Moreton Bay, a purpose-built oncology centre.

The centre will be officially opened at 10am at 128 McKean St, Caboolture, marking the second of three planned Cancer Care Associates (CCA) facilities in Queensland.

Cancer Care Associates CEO Damien Williams says, until now, many local cancer patients have faced the tough choice between enduring long, costly trips to Brisbane for treatment or forgoing radiation therapy altogether.

“We’ve heard from our local clinical community that some patients decline radiation therapy because they simply can’t manage the travel or afford private options,” he says.

“That’s heartbreaking - and exactly why we’re here. Our new centre ensures patients in the Moreton Bay area can receive high-quality, comprehensive cancer care right here in their own community.”

For many locals, radiation treatment often meant 1–2 hours of travel each way to Brisbane — with limited public transport, high parking costs, and hospital transport options that can turn a short appointment into a full day away from home.

Cancer Care Moreton Bay is the only comprehensive oncology centre in Caboolture, bringing together a full suite of cancer treatment and support services, including:

• Radiation Oncology – treating most adult cancers, including advanced stereotactic therapies for brain, spine, lung and prostate cancers

• medical oncology (chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapies)

• haematology

• oncology pharmacy and clinical trials

• Access to allied health and support services

Mr Williams says the $25 million facility has been designed around patient comfort, convenience and community needs, ensuring access to the latest technologies and a multidisciplinary team in one supportive environment.

“This centre represents more than a building,” he says. “It represents a commitment to equitable, high-quality care for every Queenslander - no matter their postcode.”

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery says the opening of Cancer Care Moreton Bay marks a major milestone for local health services and the city’s liveability.

“This facility will make a profound difference for residents and families, giving them access to vital treatment and support close to home,” Mayor Flannery says.

“Welcoming this state-of-the-art centre to our city not only improves quality of life, it also highlights the growing opportunities in our health and medical technology sector here in Moreton Bay.”
