Candlelight vigil for Senior-Constable Dave Masters

A candlelight vigil for Deception Bay policeman Senior-Constable Dave Masters will be held this weekend.

Moreton Bay Region police have invited the community to join them for the memorial.

Sen-Constable Masters, from Deception Bay Police Station, was tragically killed on the Bruce Highway at Burpengary while on duty on June 26 last year.

He grew up on the Redcliffe Peninsula, went to school here, did a trade at a local car dealership and met and married his wife here.

Sen-Constable Masters then went on to police at Redcliffe, Bribie Island and the Mounted Unit and finally Deception Bay.

Since his death, Sen-Constable Masters has been honoured with a memorial created at Deception Bay’s Fairy Way and this month Guide Dogs Queensland named a pup after him.

In February, Lakeside Raceway hosted an event with classic cars and sprints to raise money for Sen-Constable Masters’ family and not-for profit charity Blue Hope, with hundreds of people attending.

Community invited

Moreton Community Engagement Officer Senior Constable Jo Arthur says a sausage sizzle will be held before the vigil.

“The invite has been extended to the local community so that we can say thank you to them for their support over the past 12 months,” she says.

The vigil and sausage sizzle will be held at the Deception Bay Police Station on Saturday, June 25.

The sausage sizzle runs from 5-6pm, with the service starting at 6pm.

Sen-Constable Arthur says parking is not available at the Deception Bay Police station, but alternative parking has been arranged at the nearby Tallowwood lawn cemetery.

Four shuttle buses will transport people to and from the station in a three-minute loop because there is no pedestrian access along Deception Bay Rd due to roadworks.

Passengers can be dropped off at the police station.

Sen-Constable Arthur says attending the vigil is free, but urges people to register here for catering purposes.
