Celebrate Lunar New Year in Moreton Bay

Celebrate the Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Dragon during the Moreton Bay Lunar New Year event at Caboolture on February 17.

The vibrant celebration at Caboolture Town Square includes authentic Eastern culture, history, and entertainment.

It’s free to attend and will feature traditional music and dance, mouth-watering Asian food, Chinese dragon dancing, cracker displays, pyrotechnic showcases, market stalls, and martial arts displays.

Traditional dancing

Popular lion and dragon dances will chase away evil spirits, bringing good luck and wealth instead.

The movements in a lion and dragon performance are said to symbolise historical roles of these beasts, demonstrating dignity and power.

Martial arts displays

Prepare to be thrilled when Red Dragon Martial Arts performs electrifying martial arts displays.

Red Dragon Martial Arts has been teaching martial arts in the Caboolture area since 1997. With more than 70 classes each week in a variety of styles and ages.

The performance team has appeared on TV many times during the past 20 years including on Australia’s Got Talent and Totally Wild.

Food and markets

Treat your taste buds to a feast of Eastern flavours in an Eat Street-style food offering. Sample a variety of flavours or fill up on your favourite.

There will be a range of Eastern-inspired food trucks to please the whole family.

Then take a stroll under the festoon lights and wonder through the twilight markets.

Visitors will find Lunar New Year souvenirs, traditional hand-crafted items, toys, mementos, lanterns, clothing and more.

Year of the Dragon

2024 brings with it the Year of the Dragon.

The Year of the Dragon is one of the most revered and auspicious periods in the Chinese zodiac cycle.

It is associated with power, strength, and good fortune.

Dragons are regarded as mythical creatures that symbolise authority, excellence and success in Chinese culture.

Those born under the sign are believed to inherit the dragon's traits, making them charismatic, ambitious, and natural leaders.
