Clampdown on illegal parking

Moreton Bay City Councillors have voted unanimously to start court proceedings over nine unpaid parking fines.

Four are allegedly for parking in an “area for people with disabilities” in Redcliffe (2), Woorim and Bongaree.

“It’s an issue I’m noticing from feedback from sports clubs,” Councillor Matt Constance (Div 10) said.

“It’s an issue more and more within our sports reserves and facilities.

“These clubs are working hard to provide opportunities for members of the community who may have a disability or impairment.

“They are actually finding it harder to participate because they are having to park further away.”

Cr Mick Gillam (Div 8) said it was “very disappointing”. “I implore people … please don’t park in disabled parking spots,” he said.

The other five penalty infringement notices included two for stopping on a ‘path, dividing or nature strip, painted or traffic island’ and one each for stopping in a ‘mail zone’, ‘taxi zone’ and ‘parking longer than indicated’.

Three were allegedly committed in Redcliffe and two in Caboolture.
