Community sports to win big under new Council partnership
A range of community sporting facilities across the City of Moreton Bay are set to benefit from a new five-year partnership between Council and Caboolture Sports Club (CSC).
Under the arrangement, millions of dollars will be invested into infrastructure upgrades at Council-managed sporting venues, supporting local clubs, community groups and athletes across the region.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the partnership would help ensure the City continued to offer some of the best community sporting facilities in Queensland.
“This is a game-changing collaboration that will help us attract major sporting events and improve the game-day experience for our grassroots players,” he said.
“From field upgrades to the construction of additional change rooms, participants, spectators and the wider community will benefit greatly from this new partnership.
“Council and CSC will be making significant financial contributions, and we will also be seeking federal and state funding to ensure we deliver the best sporting facilities we can for our residents.
“This partnership will deliver benefits to CSC with improvements to its managed sports venues, which will also be beneficial for Council and the broader community.”
Funding and proposed projects
The partnership will see Council contribute $2.5 million, with CSC committing at least $1.8 million over the next five years towards infrastructure projects at Council sports venues.
While planning is still in the early stages, projects being considered under the City Infrastructure Project include:
Clubhouse upgrade at Dances Road Sports Ground, Caboolture
Construction of additional changerooms at Grant Road Sports and Community Complex, Morayfield
Field and carpark lighting installation at Petersen Road Sports Ground, Morayfield
Construction of additional changerooms and amenities at Wamuran Sports Complex
Council has also endorsed a $500,000 City Project Grant to CSC towards planning and design of these projects in 2025–26, with CSC contributing at least $360,000.
CSC currently holds 13 leases and 12 sports field permits across Council sports venues, and also provides funding support for local sporting clubs, community groups and individual athletes.
The previous partnership between Council and CSC, which ran from 2019 to 2023, attracted significant third-party investment from the state and federal governments and contributed to the development of more than $7 million in key sporting facilities.
Councillor support
Division 2 Councillor Mark Booth said Council was thrilled to again be working with Caboolture Sports Club.
“The club is an outstanding organisation that plays a major role in the delivery of local sport and recreation opportunities,” he said.
Division 3 Councillor Adam Hain said the new partnership was a big win for local sporting organisations and the broader community.
“This partnership will see another massive investment in our community sporting facilities and the upgrades, including those being considered at Dances Road Sports Ground and Grant Road Sports and Community Complex, will help us be a leading sports destination,” he said.
Division 12 Councillor Tony Latter said he was looking forward to the community benefiting from projects delivered under the partnership.
“These infrastructure projects including those under consideration Peterson Road Sports Ground and Wamuran Sports Complex will benefit players and spectators alike from junior participants right through to participants in elite competitions,” he said
Club perspective
CSC CEO Craig Thomas said the new partnership was an exciting one for the community.
“CSC is excited to be partnering again with Council to deliver upgrades to sporting facilities that will greatly benefit our community,” he said.
“We are committed to giving back to our community and see growing and improving local sports infrastructure, which we manage, as a great way of doing just that.
