Couple’s $10,000 wedding surprise
A Kippa-Ring couple’s 50th wedding anniversary was made even more after they scratched a top prize of $10,000 on a $1 Instant Scratch-Its they had received as a gift.
Sharing his excitement with an official from The Lott this morning, the winning husband recounted the moment they discovered their instant windfall.
“On the weekend my wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary, and my nephew bought us 50 $1 scratchies because he knew my wife loves playing them,” he said.

“My wife scratched all 50 of them and told me we had won. I thought it wasn’t real. I thought she was just joking.
“She gave it to me, and I looked at it and thought ‘it does look real’. But we took it to the newsagency (in Carindale) just to make sure. That’s when they confirmed we had won!”
When asked how they planned to enjoy their windfall, the winner said came at a perfect time.
“We’ve both just retired this year so it will come in handy for that,” he explained. “We’ll use some of it towards hosting a big family Christmas I think!”

During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 29.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $235.25 million.
