Court rules on variation request

The Village Retirement Group (TVRG) will resubmit its application to vary a development control plan in North Lakes.

It follows a decision by the Planning and Environment Court supporting Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) which said the application was not acceptable in its submitted form.

A spokesman said TVRG will be preparing a “properly made development application” and remained committed to its plans for land on part of the former North Lakes Golf Course.

TVRG last year released proposals for an independent school, aged care facility and retirement village on the site.

"Provides clarity"

A spokesman for MBRC said the court’s decision “provides clarity for council, the community and the applicant in relation to the development application process for the redevelopment of part of the former North Lakes Golf Course site”.

A spokesman for Save North Lakes Golf Course (SNLGC) said: “We welcome that the court indicated in its preliminary judgement, that MBRC was correct in its determination that the development application could not lawfully proceed in its current form.

“This is a positive and vindicating outcome for the North Lakes community especially the supporters of SNLGC.

“We will continue to advocate to stop any parcels of open space being rezoned to residential units and nursing homes.”
