State Budget - Moreton Bay’s winners

Scores of major and minor projects have funding in the State Budget which Premier David Crisafulli said “continues to deliver a fresh start for Moreton Bay”.

This region is estimated to have received more $400 million, with the biggest funding sectors being roads, education, law and order and sporting facilities.

Education and youth infrastructure

Continuing its pledge last year, the State Government has allocated $95.8 million over three years to expand Woodford Youth Detention Centre from 80 beds to 112.

There’s ongoing funding of $60 million for three years for the new Moreton Bay TAFE Centre of Excellence and Advanced Manufacturing Hub at Moreton Bay Central.

A new special school in Moreton Bay South, earmarked for the Pine Rivers United Church land at Narangba Rd, is also in the Budget.

As flagged last year, Woodford State School will receive funding to have Year 11 and 12 students in addition to its current Prep to Year 10.

The State Government has told the Uniting Church of Australia, Queensland Synod, it intends to compulsorily acquire the site. The church has lodged an appeal.

Roads and transport

Bruce Highway upgrades from the Gateway Motorway to North Lakes are part of a record $55.9 billion to be spent, with the Federal Government, on roads and transport.

There’s also ongoing funding to plan the new Bribie Island Bridge and upgrade the intersection of Beerburrum Rd, Twin View Rd and English St, Elimbah.

The intersection of Hornibrook Esp and Oxley Ave at Woody Point will also be upgraded along with the D’Aguilar Highway intersections at Ironbark Drive and Lord Lane.

Health projects

Work has started on the Redcliffe Hospital multi-storey car park upgrade, which will take it to 1000 spaces. The main project contract for 210 new beds and services is to be finalised.

More than $10 million has been allocated for a new paediatric outpatients department at Caboolture Hospital.

Crime, housing and growth

Funding of $44 million for four years continues to upgrade the Redcliffe Police station.

$4.76 million is going to protect domestic and family violence victims using a GPS Tracker, being piloted in Caboolture and Townsville, which monitors high-risk offenders 24-hours a day.

Expanding POLAIR, the aerial crime-fighting service, from Sunshine Coast into Moreton Bay has funding, following January’s announcement of $22.8 million over three years.

There’s more than $40 million to fast-track the construction and upgrades of infrastructure to unlock land for new homes in Waraba and Woodford.

Sport and olympic infrastructure

Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre, which will host 2032 Olympic and Paralympic events, is part of the Budget’s $417 million to plan, design and build Games venues.

Another $3.8 million is for a new Pine Rivers FC clubhouse. Pine Rivers Netball Association will also get a new building at Les Hughes Sports Complex, in partnership with Council.

Community services and facilities

$15 million over three years is for the new Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital in Dakabin, while Moreton Bay Meals on Wheels receives an additional $300,000 over four years.

Building Dickson Men's Shed at James Drysdale Reserve in Bunya gets $3.1 million over two years and the State backs the redevelopment of Bribie Island Neighbourhood Centre.

There’s also support for Caboolture Wellspring Hub delivering easier access to health services for women and girls through a new community health hub.

Delaneys Creek Rural Fire Brigade HQ will be replaced at a cost of $1.4 million over two years.

There’s also support for a new function space and kitchen at Bribie Island Surf Club, upgrading Pine Rivers PCYC and phase one of the Scarborough Boat Harbour Master Plan.

Storage upgrades to North Pine Dam and Lake MacDonald Dam will continue under the $694.2 million water funding. There is also funding for the Somerset Water Security Scheme.
