COVID-19 UPDATE: August 7

There have been 13 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, but all are linked and it is not believed they were active in the community. It’s encouraging news as we wait to see if lockdown will be lifted tomorrow.

Twelve of the new cases were in home quarantine for all of their infectious period and Queensland Health is working with one other to determine if they were in the community at any stage.

All are linked to the Indooroopilly cluster and are household or close contacts of known cases.

That brings the total number of cases connected with the Indooroopilly cluster to 102. There are now 144 active cases in Queensland.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles says the number of people in home quarantine is now 10,091.

“Whatever happens tomorrow, these 10,091 people will need to stay in quarantine,” he says.

He is encouraged by today's figures – all linked cases, high rates of testing (over 40,000), and limited community exposure.

“This is another very good day … very encouraging results. You’re doing great with your mask wearing, getting tested and staying home. We need to keep that up,” he says.

“If we do that, it will give us the best possible chance of starting to get closer to what is normal as soon as possible.”

Monitoring the situation

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young says she is confident the 13^th case, a child, was not out in the community during their infectious period but her team is working with the family to confirm it. The child tested positive while in home quarantine.

“We now have over 10,000 people in home quarantine and I thank every single one of those people for persisting,” she says.

She says it is critical they continue to do the right thing and she recognises how challenging it will be for some families as their quarantine period is reset each time a member of the household tests positive.

Dr Young says she will be watching the situation closely today and tomorrow to ensure there aren’t more cases in the community she does not yet know about.

Get vaccinated, stay home, wear masks

Health Minister Yvette D'Ath says for the second day in a row, Queensland recorded the second highest vaccination rate in the country.

Mrs D'Ath says the relief she felt receiving her second vaccination yesterday is something she wants all Queenslanders to feel.

She is urging anyone with symptoms to get tested quickly to reduce the chance to spreading COVID-19 in the community and thanked frontline health workers, emergency services personnel and retail workers in supermarkets for rising to the challenge.

Do the right thing

Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski says more than 10,000 vehicles were intercepted in the past 24 hours and the level of compliance continues to improve.

He says 42 of those were issued with penalty infringement notices, and 16 people were issued with notices for refusing to wear masks. Four people were arrested across the state.

“To those people … do the right thing. Stop that behaviour,” he says.

“This is about stopping the spread of this very dangerous virus.”

Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski says the community is watching and reporting those doing the wrong thing. There were 96 calls to police in the past 24 hours.

Businesses are following Queensland Health’s directives, with no breaches for any of the 312 inspected.

6. as you are a close contact, you and anyone who resides at your home or accommodation are required to quarantine for 14 days from the time you were at the venue.

3. continue to quarantine until you receive a negative result
4. enter your details into the contact tracing form by clicking or tapping on the name for the relevant location in the table below. You will not be contacted by Queensland Health unless additional information about the exposure changes the risk level
5. continue to monitor for symptoms, if you become symptomatic get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.
