COVID-19 UPDATE: July 29 - Masks still compulsory

Wearing a mask will remain compulsory for another week, as Queensland recorded one new case of overseas-acquired COVID-19 overnight.

Health Minister and Member for Redcliffe Yvette D'Ath says that with 13 incursions of the virus throughout the state in the past six weeks, masks and home quarantine remain our best defence against the spread of COVID-19.

"We have been able to confine (the spread) to very small numbers through mask wearing and people isolating themselves," she says.

"It's important that we continue to practice mask wearing to ensure we don't have transmission."

Masks must be worn both indoors and out, unless people are exercising vigorously.

Genomic sequencing

There are 42 active cases in the state, with 25,362 tests and 12,136 vaccinations in the past 24 hours.

Mrs D'Ath says genomic sequencing for the man who flew from the Philippines to Australia and stayed at the Roma St City Backpackers after being released from hotel quarantine showed he had the Alpha strain.

She says his case is a direct match with three other people who flew with him on flights from the Philippines to PNG and then from PNG to Brisbane.

The three others quarantined in a different hotel, so Mrs D'Ath says the man must have contracted the disease either while flying or at an airport.

If you have been to this location in Queensland at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. immediately travel by private transport directly to your home or accommodation and quarantine
2. get tested at your earliest opportunity
3. complete the online contact tracing form by clicking or tapping on the name for the relevant location in the table below. A pop up window will appear with specific advice for that location and a link to the form.
   If you are unable to complete the contact tracing form please call 134 COVID (134 268).
4. continue to quarantine even after receiving a negative result. After you complete the contact tracing form you will be contacted by Queensland Health.

Casual contacts

If you have been to any of the below locations at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. immediately travel by private transport directly to your home or accommodation and quarantine
2. get tested at your earliest opportunity
3. continue to quarantine until you receive a negative result
4. enter your details into the contact tracing form by clicking or tapping on the name for the relevant location in the table below. You will not be contacted by Queensland Health unless additional information about the exposure changes the risk level
5. continue to monitor for symptoms, if you become symptomatic get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.

Low risk contacts

If you have been to any of the below locations at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. get tested but you do not need to isolate unless you have symptoms
2. if you are experiencing symptoms, quarantine at home until you receive a negative result
3. continue to monitor for symptoms, if you become symptomatic get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.
