COVID Safe approval for Jetty 2 Jetty

After facing the prospect of breaking its 34-year streak due to COVID-19, the Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run is out of the blocks. Its COVID Safe event plan has now been approved by Queensland Health.

Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) CEO Shane Newcombe says with the easing of restrictions and hard work put in by his incredible events team, the event on October 4, is off and racing.

“We are excited to have received approval of our COVID Safe event plan from Queensland Health this week,” Mr Newcombe says.

“The running community have suffered, like the rest of us, during this pandemic. With most running events being run virtually, postponed until next year or cancelled completely, we are excited to be able to deliver a COVID Safe real-life running event which already caters to all fitness levels and ages.”

Same, but different

Although the race has the tick of approval, it will look a little different to recent years. The safety of runners, event staff, volunteers and spectators is paramount, so extra measures have been introduced in line with COVID Safe requirements.

Participants have four race distances to choose from; Half Marathon (21.1km), 10km, Stockland Newport 5km or Sesame Lane 3km.

Those who have not yet registered, should consider doing so as soon as possible. The 21km is already 80 per cent sold out.

Moreton Bay Regional Mayor Peter Flannery says this year’s event will look a little different to the 33 years prior, due to changes required in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“We’ve done our time at home keeping our community safe, now it’s time to dig out the active wear and get out and enjoy some of the best coastline Queensland has to offer,” Mayor Flannery says.

“I’ll be at the event encouraging all the participants and spectators to continue the festivities at local venues after the race, because that’s the best thing we can all be doing right now to help local businesses and our region through this pandemic.”
