Donate a Book Appeal improving literacy

Libraries across Moreton Bay have continued to facilitate the Donate a Book Appeal, with the community donating 974 more books in 2023 than in 2022.

The Moreton Bay community truly gave back to improve literacy for those in need last year, by donating 3,314 new books to libraries across the city.

All books collected by Moreton Bay libraries go directly to The Smith Family, to distribute to families in need.

Mayor Peter Flannery says the community worked together to donate an unprecedented number of books.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Moreton Bay’s heart-warming community spirit with a total of 22,020 books donated over the past 15 years,” Mayor Flannery says.

“This wonderful initiative has made it possible for thousands of children across the city to unwrap the magic of books during the holiday season.

“Improving literacy and ensuring reading is accessible to everyone in our community is central to the work of our libraries team and through partnerships with organisations such as The Smith Family, we can get books into the hands of those who need it most.”
