Doors open on $6m Doonan

The Comiskey Group, which has multiple venues in the Moreton Bay Region, added to its growing portfolio with the opening of The Doonan.

Situated in the Noosa hinterland, The Doonan has garden-themed indoor and outdoor dining, beer gardens, a pizzeria and will soon have a large children’s playground.

The Comiskey Group, based at Eatons Hill, bought the two-hectare site at 6 Beddington Rd, Doonan, in 2006, with plans to develop the property which was a German restaurant.

Working with Noosa-based Josh Jones and Neville Allen, doors opened on the $6 million project late last week and bookings for lunch and dinner in March are already filling fast.

“We saw a great opportunity when the land in Doonan came up for sale,” director Rob Comiskey said.

“The property is just an eight-minute drive from Noosa and five-minute drive from Eumundi, making it an easy escape for locals and tourists alike.

“It’s been a long road and our team has worked extremely hard to get The Doonan off the ground, but it’s been well worth it.”

The Doonan’s prominent red roof remains but has been renovated into an internal bar and function space, set among alfresco dining areas and beer gardens.

Archways, ceilings and exposed brick are features of the refurbishment along with the landscaping, plants, flowers and signature olive trees.

The Comiskey Group owns and runs Eatons Hill Hotel, Sandstone Point Hotel, Beachmere Hotel, Samford Hotel and The Comiskey Distillery.

It also has plans to open the Strathpine Hotel, Aura Hotel and Coochin Fields venues.
