Doors to open at new $35m hotel

Dakabin Hotel, the new $35 million Comiskey Group development, will open on Wednesday - with thousands of dinner bookings already made.

There will also be a ceremonial pouring of the first beer which will be auctioned and proceeds donated to a local charity.

“To receive over 5000 (online) bookings in just 48 hours was a fantastic result,” Director Rob Comiskey said, after a private opening on Saturday.

“We have already received unprecedented support. It has been so rewarding to see the community rally around and get excited for their new local.”

The venue, on the corner of Alma and Old Gympie Rds, joins the Comiskey Group portfolio which includes Eatons Hill and Sandstone Point Hotels.

Dakabin Hotel, on a 3.75 hectare site at the corner of Alma Rd and Old Gympie Rd, has a one-restaurant, two-kitchen concept.

It's Western kitchen will serve food inspired by the Americas, Britain and Europe, while the Eastern kitchen draws from Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea and China.

The Sin Bin Sports Bar will show live sport on an expansive LED screen, with a circular LED display playing FoxSports.

Entertainment will include live music on Fridays and weekends, followed by DJs after dark.

There will also be electronic darts, pool tables, a gaming room, kids’ arcade, half basketball court and sunken fireplace on the patio.

“There’s been a lot of hard work gone into every facet of the venue, from design and build to styling and the overall offering” Director David Comiskey said.

“A big shout out to everyone on the construction site!”

The winning bidder will pour the first beer shortly after Dakabin Hotel officially opens at 11.30am on Wednesday.

The Comiskey family will match the winning bid and double the donation to charity.

“We think the auction is going to be a bit of fun and a meaningful way to open the hotel, supporting a worthy cause,” Rob Comiskey said.
