Double delight in Moreton Bay
Humpback whales are already travelling through Moreton Bay in large numbers as they head up the coast during the northern migration.
Brisbane Whale Watching passengers were treated to a double breach this week off Cape Moreton, as Captain Kerry Lopez explains.
“The whales were within metres of (my vessel) Eyespy and they started showing off by continuously breaching pectoral slapping and tail slapping,” she says.
“It has been an exceptional season so far. The greatest thing is that we have observed are super pods on a daily basis. Historically the whales travel in pairs during their northern migration however this year they are travelling in pods of six to eight.
“We have also sighted three newborn calves which is very early in the season and very exciting for whale watchers from Redcliffe on Eyespy.”
