Eliminated from Australian Idol, but it's only the beginning

Bribie Island local, Kiani Smith has now been eliminated from Australian Idol after making it to the Top 8.

The 17-year-old singer was the youngest contestant on the show, and first started performing at the age of seven.

The young star was eliminated in a Top 4 elimination round, where only two contestants could be saved.

Her last performance on the show was Feeling Good by Nina Simone.

While it may be the end of Kiani’s Australian Idol journey, it will not be the end of music for her.

“…I’d like to start writing more songs. I’m a very serious song writer so I want to take more time writing songs and hopefully getting into a recording studio and being able to record some music - stuff like that, and just performing more,” Kiani says.

“I’d like to even start getting out some singles, to start out with, and just getting back into gigs because it’s been a while since I’ve done a gig.”

Kiani says some of the highlights for her were meeting new people and receiving such incredible support from her family, friends and the Bribie Island community.

“Everyone on the show is so nice and so genuine, so it was really nice to make long life friends…” she says.

“Also just performing in front of an audience that big was incredible, like it was a one-time experience sort of thing, and yeah, I soaked it up – it was great.

“My friends and family are so supportive, especially my family, but my friends are really excited – like they always fan girl over it and it’s so cute, but they love watching me and it’s really nice to have people that support me this much.

“Honestly, it feels so amazing (to have made it this far), you know? I worked so hard for this.

“(The journey) was so good and you know, I’ve still got so much more time to do things in the future, but it’s been really great.”
