Enjoy a night of traditional Scottish melodies and dances in Redcliffe
A musical performance which showcases Scotland’s rich culture and heritage will be performed at the Redcliffe Showgrounds next month.
Members from the Redcliffe Scottish Pipe Band Inc, along with highland dancers, will gather for their annual Ceilidh (a social event which includes singing, traditional dancing and sometimes storytelling), which will be held at Webb Hall on Saturday, October 29.
Redcliffe Scottish Pipe Band Secretary John Richards said the evening is sure to entertain people of all ages.
“There will be lots of Scottish music and songs as well as dances from the highland dancers, which will be very entertaining,” John said.
“There will also be the Dancing Ashbys, who will guide people on how to do the traditional dances by getting them to stand up and join in.
“We love to get the audience involved so when they go home, they know they have had a good night.”

The performance will be held on Saturday, October 29 from 7-11pm at Webb Hall at the Redcliffe Showgrounds.
The doors and bar open at 6.30pm.
A light supper of mixed sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee will be provided.
Beer, wine, mixers, cider and soft drinks will also be available for sale at the bar.
Tickets are $30 each and need to be prepaid in advance as there are a limited number of tickets available.

Scottish pride
The Redcliffe Scottish Pipe Band also teach piping and drumming to people who are keen to learn.
“Learning to play the bag pipes is not something that can be done straight away – it takes a long time to learn,” John said.
“We have a few people that are currently learning with us, because we are one of the best teaching bands around.
“Once they are ready, they will come and play in the street with us.”
It costs $50 a year to join the band, and once you are skilled, you could join the others when they play at special community events such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
The band leads the annual Redcliffe March every Anzac Day down Redcliffe Parade to the Cenotaph.
The band can also be seen playing regularly at Rotary Park (opposite the Redcliffe RSL) to coincide with the Redcliffe Markets.
The band will be playing at Rotary Park on October 9, November 6, November 20 and December 4 between 9-10am.
The band currently has nine pipers and eight drummers, with John being a drummer.
Members range in age from as young as five right up to 78.
