Exhibition celebrates wildlife
Danielle Latta is more used to creating smaller works, but she’s been able to show her talent on a grand scale thanks to a grant from Moreton Bay Regional Council.
The result is the Love with No Boundaries exhibition, which is on at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre’s Stage Door Gallery.
“When I got the (Regional Arts Development Fund) grant from Council it allowed me to explore and experiment,” Danielle says.
Poignant hugs
Rather than her usual pen on paper technique, the former Walt Disney artist has used Chinese calligraphy brushes to create giant works on plywood depicting animals such as lions and elephants being hugged by children.
“I’ve wanted to go big for such a long time, but I didn’t have the time or money and the grant allowed be to do that.”
The exhibition also includes smaller works using a traditional calligraphy pen on paper that capture the beginnings of the larger pieces.
“The hug represents our care for all animals and the wonder of being able to love whomever, no matter the differences or perceptions.
Creative contrast
“The box-like wooden form of the large artworks’ structure symbolises animal transportation and confinement crates – the harshness of reality contrasting with the softness of a warm hug.”
Love with No Boundaries is on until June 20 at the Stage Door Gallery, Downs St, Redcliffe.
The gallery is open 9am-5pm Tuesday-Friday and an hour before shows.
