Farewell gig for local rockers

After 15 years on the Australian rock circuit, Team Utopia will take to the stage for the final time on December 20 in Clontarf, delivering a farewell performance that promises to be loud, emotional and unforgettable.

The show, rescheduled due to weather, marks the end of a long and colourful chapter for the band who have performed across some of the best venues and festivals in the country and shared stages with the likes of The Living End, Kip Moore, Hoodoo Gurus, Richie Ramone, Mental as Anything and You Am I.

Drummer Sue Kennet says the group decided to finish on their own terms.

“We want to go away loudly. Most bands break up and it never has a happy ending. We are breaking that mould. It is sad and exciting at the same time. New things are always good,” Kennet says.

Each member has reached a point where life and opportunity have shifted.

Frontman Dan Nebe is developing a solo project while managing a rapidly expanding business.

Vocalist and guitarist Kirsti Down is balancing family life, work on the frontline of the health system and multiple creative projects.

Producer and guitarist Micky B continues running his studio and developing new acts, including his own rising project Killtoys.

“It is the right moment. We have loved every part of this journey but the next chapters for all of us are already unfolding,” the band said in statement.

Joining Team Utopia for the final show is acclaimed duo Salt & Steel, known for their high-impact performances. They are renowned for pushing the boundaries of a two-piece act with a commanding stage presence.

Salt & Steel said: “We want people to feel the music. Our shows are about connection, power and energy. Being part of Team Utopia’s last night is an honour”.

The farewell event is expected to draw long-term fans, industry peers and local supporters keen to witness the closing chapter of one of the region's most enduring acts.
