Festival bronze for Red Dragons team

Redcliffe Red Dragons were smiling all the way back to the peninsula after winning a bronze medal at the Coast to Coast Festival.

Dragons’ 55+ Mixed 10s team clinched third place in the 200m final, on Lake Kawana at the Sunshine Coast, at a festival featuring 27 clubs.

The paddlers, drummer and sweep/steerer were Lorna Hill, Iciar Argus, Rita Beadsmoore, Ann Matthysen, Shelly Baumann, Keith Tucker, Bob Rapley, Deb Watson, Faye Stewart, Gary Rapley, Paul Hogg and Phil Matthysen

Dragons’ 40+ team performed well finishing sixth in the final of the 500m, while the 40+ 200m side made it to the repecharge.

Also competing at the festival were Dragons’ Kelly Monds, Jill Aplin, Natalie Bliesner, Natalie Mason, Cherie Robinson, Nita Cox, Theresa Lymbery,

The festival was held to help clubs get back on the water after the pandemic put paid to many plans in 2020.

Four of Dragons’ paddlers on the Sunshine Coast have been paddling for less than 10 months.

The club welcomes new members for a sport which caters for all ages, fitness and commitment levels from juniors upwards.

Redcliffe Red Dragons are based at Talobilla Park, Klingner Rd and train on the water from 6-7pm Wednesdays and 7-8.30/9am Saturdays until the end of July
