First look: IGA Newport

The much-anticipated opening of IGA Newport is almost here. Moreton Daily had a sneak peek at the store today, which will be the anchor tenant at the landmark Newport Marketplace.

Grocery stock is in place, with fresh produce, bakery, meat, deli and perishable stock to arrive closer to the grand opening on Saturday, October 29 at 8am.

The store is owned by two brothers who also own IGA supermarkets at Albion and at Banora Point in northern New South Wales.

They and their team at IGA Newport have a passion for supporting local growers and producers, and being an engaged part of the community.

These have been key areas of focus in the lead-up to the opening as they sourced suppliers and connected with local schools and community groups.

Project Co-Ordinator Lisa Wallage says creating an offering which will meet the needs of the community has also been front-of-mind.

“It will be a full-range supermarket with a real focus on fresh and gourmet foods. In our store, you will find market-fresh produce, an extensive deli with gourmet foods, cheese bar, nut butter section and an in-house café with Campos superior coffee, not to mention aisles and aisles of your favourite brands,” Lisa explains.

What else is on offer?

IGA Newport will stock about 150 types of cheeses as well as Salumi handcrafted, ethically farmed, cured and slow aged meats.

“We’ll keep adding to the cheese selection. We’re just checking the market and if there is a good response, we have got more suppliers ready to just come on board,” she says.

“The deli offering will turn a lot of heads. That’s going to be amazing.”

There will be European cheeses as well as Australian cheeses from Kenilworth, Woombye, Barambah. IGA Newport will be stocking dairy products including milk from Barambah, Maleny and Norco dairies.

The store will also offer Kombucha on tap and fresh peanut butter, honey, produce and seafood.

More will be revealed closer to the opening on October 29, including promotions to be held on the day. See Moreton Daily next Thursday for details.
