Flood damage fix on the way

Work to fix damage from landslips caused by this year’s floods has moved a step closer with Moreton Bay Regional council awarding a tender to design solutions for remediating damaged roads.

The designs will pave the way for construction at six sites – two at Clear Mountain and one each at Mount Pleasant, Delaneys Creek, Samford Valley and Mount Nebo.

Councillor Cath Tonks (Div 9) welcomed the move, saying residents were keen to see the damage repaired.

|“There’s quite a lot of significant damage across the region, especially in Clear Mountain, which had really big slips,” she said.|

“The Clear Mountain community have been very active in promoting that works get repaired as soon as possible.

“Getting external designs will speed up the process.”

Council awarded the tender to ARO Industries, with funding approved by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority via Australian Government, Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Structured program

Design starts this month and is expected to take six months to complete, although ARO Industries is able to deliver the design in phases, which will enable some construction to be prioritised.

Moreton Bay Asset Maintenance manager Rod MacBeth said repairs were a high priority, with more than 100 flood-related projects still on Council’s list.

“They’re all of different complexities of work,” Mr MacBeth said.

“Many of those we’re able to do internally but there are ones, due to the complexity, we need to go out to the market.”

Councillor Mick Gillam (Div 8) told last week’s Council meeting he had received many phone calls and emails asking about flood damage repairs.

“There’s a process we have to go through to get bridges through our parks and pathways that got washed away fixed,” he said.

“This is now the first one that’s come through to get funding from the State and there will be more coming in future months, and that’s why it’s taking so long to get things fixed, but it will happen.”
