Flood watch remains as severe weather passes

A Flood Watch remains in place for South East Queensland catchments including the Pine and Caboolture Rivers after torrential rain in the past 24 hours. A handful of roads remain closed across the Moreton Bay Region due to flooding.

Rainfall totals from 9am yesterday to 6am today include 49mm at Redcliffe, Everton Hills and Bribie Island; 48mm at Woody Point and 43mm at Strathpine.

River level rises have been forecast, with areas of minor to moderate flooding possible across the Flood Watch area.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Sunshine Coast Rivers and Creeks

Pine and Caboolture Rivers

Upper Brisbane River

Lower Brisbane River

Logan and Albert Rivers

Gold Coast Rivers and Creeks

The worst of the heavy rain has passed with the Bureau of Meteorology shifting its severe weather warning to far South East Queensland this morning as a low pressure system moves south. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Beaudesert, Coolangatta, Boonah, Mount Tamborine and Springbrook.

A Dangerous Surf warning has also been issued.

Acting local SES Controller for the Moreton Bay Region Sean Harrop says the region fared reasonably well compared to others in South East Queensland with just 15 calls for assistance in the past 24 hours, mostly for leaking roofs.
