Flynn backs 42k Your Way fundraiser

By Millie Stocks

Flynn Harding has battled cancer and now he’s helping raise much-needed funds for the Queensland Children’s Hospital.

The eight-year-old from Narangba has begun his journey as the official ambassador for Children’s Hospital Foundation 42k Your Way fundraising event.

Flynn and his parents’ lives were forever changed when they received news that the youngster had an extremely rare cancer called epithelioid sarcoma.

The cancer is a slow-growing type of soft tissue cancer, commonly found on the hand, forearms, lower legs or feet.

Flynn was transferred to Queensland Children’s Hospital where he went into surgery for nine hours to amputate parts of his hand and receive a skin graft.

Flynn’s mother, Ashle, says they faced a nervous wait to see if their son would be OK.

“He’s been so incredibly brave throughout the journey, and we received so much support from the Children’s Hospital which is why we’re so thrilled to be able to give back by taking part in 42k Your Way,” Ashle says.

What’s Happening

Flynn’s dad, Mitchell, is running 42km during August to raise as much money as possible.

“I’ll be running seven kilometres a day for six days with one rest day, and I’m looking forward to having Flynn running or cycling some of the kilometres alongside me,” Mitchell says.

Queensland Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Rosie Simpson has commended Flynn and his family for their incredible support.

“We were delighted that Flynn has decided to support other kids going through a similar journey to him by coming on board in support of 42k Your Way,” she says.

“Everything we do is for kids and young people just like Flynn, and it’s a true privilege that he is choosing to raise awareness for Children’s Hospital Foundation.”

Ms Simpson is encouraging Queenslanders to support Flynn and go the distance for sick kids this August.
