From 'shadows' to Aussie debuts

Two North Lakes players are poised to make their international debuts next month against the best indoor netballers from New Zealand and South Africa.

Cooper Garrity and Tatum Larkin, from Northside Indoor Sport and Fitness, are in Australia squads for the WINA (World Indoor Netball Association) Tri-Nations Tournament.

Joining them is Northside director Theresa Brown, who will be one of the Tri-Nations umpires at Brisbane West Indoor Sports in Darra, from August 12-19.

“Northside Indoor Sport and Fitness and I are very proud of Tatum and Cooper on their first Australian team call up and hope they enjoy the experience on and off the court,” Brown said.

“This is where new friendships are made and an experience that not everyone gets to enjoy at such a high level for indoor netball.”

Larkin, who is in the Australian 23 Ladies squad and Garrity, in the 19 Mixed team, were originally selected as shadow players for the tournament from August 12-19.

But, due to original selections for each team being unable to attend, the North Lakes duo have been promoted.

Both play Superleague at Northside Sport and Fitness, on Flinders Pde, which is the gateway to Queensland and Supernationals teams.

Theresa Brown has officiated at three world cups as well as touring and umpiring in New Zealand and South Africa.

The tournament will feature six-a-side and traditional 7s indoor netball.
