Ghost soldiers on parade at Bribie

Bribie Island's ANZAC Day ceremonies have a remarkable addition this year – eight life-sized ghost soldiers.

There is also a replica of the iconic stretcher-bearer John Simpson and his dockey Duffy, complete with a patient and two-soldier honour guard.

All have been made by the Community Men’s Shed Bribie Island, from chicken wire, over a four-month period and kept tightly under wraps – until today.

The figures, commissioned by the RSL sub-branch, were due to be positioned at Korea Place last night and be on display today.

Creating ghost soldiers from chicken wire originated in the UK and has been expanded by the Community Men’s Shed on Bribie.

Bribie Island RSL is returning to it’s pre-COVID program of a dawn service at 4.28am, which was held last year, and then a morning march at 8.30am and main service at 9am.
