Community groups in the Longman electorate will get more the $127,000 in Federal Government Volunteer Grants.

Member for Longman Terry Young said 42 organisations would share $127,711 in grants from between $1000-$5000 for equipment, training and running costs.

They can also be used to increase participation, promote awareness of volunteering opportunities, and adjust policies and procedures to strengthen safety.

Vital role

“I see time and time again the vital role that volunteers play in the region and how their hard work continues to strengthen our local communities,” Mr Young said.

“There are many wonderful local community groups that play such an important role in our community, and I’m delighted to be able to help them out through this program.

“There are around three million volunteers in Queensland, who put in around 900 million hours in 2020. Anything we can do to help these people carry out their important work is worth it.”

Recipients include Blind Bats Inc, whose President Paul Szep is pictured above.
