Border crossing: Guy halfway home

Guy Schweitzer has crossed into Queensland and is halfway through his epic run Home Run to Scarborough.

The 48-year-old from Scarborough left the Northern Territory close to Tobermorey Station on Tuesday and is now closing in on Boulia.

In just over six remarkable weeks Guy has covered around 2500kms across West Australian and the NT, much of it on dirt desert tracks.

A support team is currently with him, helping share the load and complete some of his biggest days. The record to Queensland's border was 75.3kms on day 43.

“We made it to Queensland,” Guy wrote on his latest daily post published on his Home Run Facebook and Instagram pages.

Loneliness of the long-distance runner

“It was a nice moment to have all the crew up early to meet me at the border for the milestone. After that the only word that comes to mind is grind.

“Solid headwind all day that slowly ate away at my positivity. By the end I was mentally spent! So happy to stop at 63.3km!

“Tonight (Tuesday) we are camped 60km inside Queensland looking at the stars. Beautiful night out here!”

The unseasonably heavy rain which hit central Australia recently forced Guy to spend an extra day in Alice Springs and change route.

His plan was to cross part of the Simpson Desert (flooded) or take the Oonadatta Track (closed). However, the Plenty Highway was open.

Local police also helped find accommodation in Harts Range. “When you’re expecting to camp, a nice shower, clean clothes and a warm bed is a nice surprise alternative,” Guy said.

The director of MGN Civil started in Port Hedland and will finish at Scarborough Harbour Brewing, in Bird O’Passage, which he co-founded with wife Sonia.
