Jake’s Power-ing to career milestone

One of Peninsula Power’s greatest servants, Jake Reesby will reach a landmark on Saturday night when he faces Brisbane City at AJ Kelly Park, (6.30pm).

The goalkeeper will become the first Power player to reach 200 Premier League appearances across the Brisbane Premier League (BPL), Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) and National Premier League (NPL).

For almost 10 years Jake has been the last line of defence as Power won three successive grand finals, entered the state league, went a whole season undefeated and faced A-League giants Melbourne City in the last 32 of the FFA Cup.

Inspiring player

“Jake has been a fantastic player for the club and instrumental in helping the club achieve so much success over many years,” says Power President Craig Feuerriegel.

“I have known Jake since he was a teenager when his father Lou played for Redcliffe City.

“Jake has inspired many juniors along the way and is always willing to pass on advice to young goalkeepers.”

The 28 year old’s career between the posts started at an early age. In fact, he says he has always played in goal.

“As the youngest of three boys it wasn’t until I was older that I realised how that happened!” Jake jokes.

Premier move

He played for North Star, North Pine and Pine Rivers before joining Peninsula Power, in December 2011, as it was always the “premier club on the northside” and made his debut the following February.

Jake helped Power win three successive BPL Grand Finals – in 2013 beating Lions 5-1; 2014 beating Wolves 5-0; 2015 beating Lions 1-0.

And two Canale Cup successes in 2013 and in 2017 when the competition was expanded.

Two years later he was between then posts as Power took on A-League giants Melbourne City in the televised last 32 of the national FFA Cup at a packed Dolphins Stadium.

Record breaker

In 2018 Power went through the state level FQPL season undefeated to reach the top tier in Queensland, the NPL, where last year they were unbeaten in their first 16 matches.

His commitment has risen with Power’s promotions. Most weeks Jake trains three nights a week and plays at the weekend.

“I am obviously more experienced these days,” says Jake, “and this season I feel I am fitter than I have ever been.”

“I enjoy it and hope to keep going a bit longer.”
