Jazz, community team up to help needy
Woolworths Morayfield’s Jasmine ‘Jazz’ Wihlborg has helped source produce for more than 20,000 meals for the needy, during the past two years, in partnership with OzHarvest.
The fruit and vegetable department employee says, through working with fresh produce, she has learnt that some “perfectly good food” can’t be sold for various reasons, but can be put to good use.
“Being part of getting it to people who need it most is really rewarding,” Jazz says.
“I’ve become more aware of how valuable food is and how easily small changes can prevent food waste. Teaming up with OzHarvest and seeing them collect and pass on rescued food to local charities means a lot.”
Woolworths Morayfield customers are also supporting OzHarvest’s work, donating money at the checkout and raising about $1000.
Every 50 cents donated, equals one meal delivered.
“It feels great knowing the work we do helps families in the Moreton Bay community and across Australia,” Jazz says.
“Customers are really supportive, especially around Christmas when times are tough for families. They like knowing their donations can make a real positive impact on the local community.”
The OzHarvest appeal runs until December 26.
“Thank you to everyone who has donated. Your support helps to make a genuine impact to the local community,” Jazz says.
