Join the Woodfordia family

Music lovers and community-minded people are being called on to become part of the Woodfordia family ahead of this year’s Woodford Folk Festival.

Volunteers are needed to help run the event, which runs from December 27 to January 1.

The iconic festival is making its return after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

Woodford Folk Festival brings together more than 2000 local, national and international, artists, musicians and presenters in the largest gathering of artists and musicians in Australia.

Every year, organisers rely on a small army of about 3000 volunteers to make it happen.

Build volunteers commit to almost one month onsite, building the festival in just over two weeks of hard work, comradery and joy, enjoying the fruits of their labour during the festival, and then staying to pack everything away. They are fed three healthy meals a day while working.

Festival volunteers work 30-35 hours across a variety of roles.

All volunteers receive a season ticket with camping onsite.

Labour of love

Woodford resident Michelle Storey, pictured, has been an office volunteer for the past three years. This year, her first as a festival volunteer, she will be an offsider to the Front of House Manager.

Michelle says she has been involved in smaller Woodfordia events but not the iconic festival and can’t wait.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” she says.

For her, being involved is a chance to meet people from diverse backgrounds and be part of something special.

“It’s pretty much the people you get to work with. It’s the vibe of the festival, it’s a loving and happy environment,” Michelle says.

“For a lot of people, it becomes a family for them.

“It’s exciting to know you helped create this festival and you’re a part of making people’s lives better.”

She is encouraging her adult children to get involved in this year’s event as well.
