Kallangur Satellite Hospital’s special services

Kallangur Satellite Hospital began accepting new patients earlier this month after officially opening on December 1.

The satellite hospital is one of seven being built in South East Queensland and one of three in the City of Moreton Bay.

It is the first to offer kidney dialysis and a rehabilitation gym. Some of the other services include a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Hub and oral health services.

The Minor Injury and Illness Clinic will provide walk-in urgent care for anyone experiencing an illness or injury that isn’t deemed to be life-threatening.

The kidney dialysis service is convenient for patients needing a closer hospital to travel to for regular appointments.

One of Kallangur’s very first patients Pauline Walter is a Caboolture local who previously had to travel to North Lakes for treatment three times a week.

“…Having the option to access the dialysis services at Kallangur will shorten my travel journey. I dialyse three times a week, so accessing care closer to home will save me hours each week,” Pauline says.

“I think people who work in renal medicine have a deep compassion, and in my experience the staff have always been very caring. Rather than being treated like a patient, I really feel that we are partners in my journey and that my opinions and feeling matter.”

Kallangur Satellite Hospital Nephrologist Dr Eoin O’Sullivan says it’s important to provide convenience to patients across Moreton Bay.

“It’s a very important goal of Metro North to provide services closer to home, and this is demonstrated by the Kallangur Satellite Hospital which offers kidney dialysis services,” Dr Eoin says.

“When patients can have dialysis closer to where they live it adds convenience and improves quality of life by reducing drive times.”

Kallangur Satellite Hospital is at 9 Stoker Way, Kallangur.

The hospital is open from 8am-10pm, seven days a week. No appointments necessary.
