Leap Year baby graces Caboolture Hospital

One Moreton Bay couple gave birth on a very special day this year.

With an original due date of March 6, Kelley and Roy Mahoney’s bundle of joy decided to arrive earthside on February 29.

Kelley gave birth to little Emerson at Caboolture Hospital just after 2pm on the rare day.

Kelley’s partner, Roy says while it was unexpected, upon reflection, it’s very special for their baby to be born on a leap year.

“After 30 hours of labour, it wasn't something we were actively thinking about,” Roy says.

“In hindsight, it feels very special to have a child on such a unique day.”

Even though the date of birth was unexpected for both parents, Kelley and Roy already have a plan of when to celebrate the youngster’s birthday.

“We will celebrate on the last day of February every year, despite my dad's desire to only buy presents every 4th year,” Roy says.
